The port of Antium, drawing of F. Bartoli (XVIII century) thrown from a roman painting of II century A.D. found in Anzio.

The book collects and analyses sources, archive documents, and findings related to Antium territory. As well known, Antium was the headtown of Volscians, an italic population, before the Roman expansion.

All the data have been critically examined to determine the distribution and evolution of the topography of the Volscian and Roman settlements through the centuries. Moreover the analysis of these data allowed to identify in Nettuno the real location of the republican colony of Antium, to recognise in Capo d'Anzio exclusively emperor Nero's colony. The buildings of this colony have been identified in a landscape of the XVIII century, copied from a painting of the II century A.D, for a long time misunderstood.
